A visit to Brazil wouldn’t be complete without exploring Rio’s iconic sights, the mighty Amazon and awe-inspiring Iguaçu Falls. You’ll also visit the ‘gold-rush town’ of Ouro Preto and immerse yourself in Brazil’s vibrant and diverse culture in historic Salvador.


Day 1: UK to Rio de Janeiro Depart from the UK on your daytime flight to Rio de Janeiro. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening at leisure. Stay: Porto Bay Rio Internacional.

Day 2: Rio de Janeiro Enjoy a scenic drive along the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon to the foot of Corcovado Hill and stop at Mirante Dona Marta to admire incredible panoramic views of the city which is watched over by the 30-metre-tall Christ the Redeemer statue. Continue to the Tijuca Forest, the world’s largest urban forest, and follow a trail up to the pretty Cascatinha Falls before returning to the city, passing stunning Pepino Beach on the way.

Enjoy a welcome lunch at the traditional Brazilian steakhouse Fogo do Cháo, where you can sample 15 different delectable cuts of fire-roasted meats. Ride a cable-car to Sugar Loaf Mountain and admire breathtaking 360-degree views of the city. Stop at the the Teatro Municipal and see the Catedral Metropolitana which features stunning stained-glass windows and architecture inspired by Mayan pyramids. Stay: Porto Bay Rio Internacional. Day 3: Rio de Janeiro Foodies are in for a treat today as you discover the secrets behind creating Brazilian dishes during a culinary class. The ingredients have been carefully selected so that you can easily recreate the dishes when you return home. Choose from two menus such as feijoada, a pork stew with black beans, rice and vegetables, followed by a traditional banana dessert.

After sitting down to enjoy your meal, visit the Grande Rio Samba School warehouse for a carnival-themed experience. Learn about the artistry that goes into the creation of the costumes that sparkle every year during the world’s biggest street party. Enjoy a taste of the carnival atmosphere with a caipirinha cocktail, lively music and the chance to dress up in some costumes. Stay: Porto Bay Rio Internacional. B, L.

Day 4: Rio de Janeiro to Manaus Fly to the vibrant city of Manuas (approx. 4¼ hours), famously the ‘Gateway to the Amazon’ and transfer to your jungle lodge. Depending on your arrival time you could visit Monkey Forest, a sanctuary within the lodge’s grounds, travel by boat to the home of a local family and try your hand at fishing before returning to the lodge for dinner. Look for nocturnal wildlife such as caimans on an evening canoe safari. Stay: Amazon Ecopark Jungle Lodge. B, L, D.

Day 5: Manaus Today you can witness a unique natural phenomenon on a motorised canoe tour. The ‘Meeting of the Waters’ is a remarkable confluence of contrasts where the light-coloured waters of the Solimões River meet the dark waters of the Rio Negro, flowing parallel for several miles without mixing. The rest of the day is at leisure. Stay: Amazon Ecopark Jungle Lodge. B.

Day 6: Manaus to Salvador Learn about the Amazon’s flora and fauna during a guided nature hike (approx. 1-3 hours). Discover essential forest skills such as identifying edible fruits, finding potable water, learning first aid and navigating your way through the forest. Transfer back to Manaus for your flight to Salvador (approx. 5¾ hours). Enjoy an evening at leisure. Stay: Sheraton da Bahia Hotel. B, D.

Day 7: Salvador Explore Brazil’s oldest city during a full-day tour. The country’s first capital is home to historic churches, grand mansions and brightly coloured colonial houses that showcase Portuguese architecture from the baroque period. Begin by the bay and drive through tree-lined streets to the historic Pelourinho quarter, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that’s home to beautifully-preserved colonial architecture. Explore the Municipal Square by foot and visit an intimate gallery to view a collection of Pierre Verger’s black and white photos.

Learn about the works of one of Bahia’s greatest writers at the Jorge Amado Centre and visit the remarkable church of San Francisco which boasts a spectacular interior adorned with gold. Enjoy a traditional Brazilian lunch at Uaua restaurant. This afternoon you can enjoy an authentic Brazilian musical experience at a percussion workshop. Bahia is the percussive heart of Brazil and its infectious African beats have attracted international musicians such as Michael Jackson. Visit a percussion instrument maker’s workshop and learn about the different instruments such as the surdo, caixa, timbau and repique of the samba reggae. Put your musical skills to the test as you learn different rhythms such as the powerhouse samba of the Reconcavo.

This evening, enjoy a traditional folklore performance at the intimate Miguel Santana Theatre in the Pelourinho quarter. Witness the African traditions that heavily influence Bahian culture, such as the capoeira, a martial art infused dance. Enjoy regional dishes with Mediterranean influences during dinner at Cuco Bistro. Stay: Sheraton da Bahia Hotel. B, L, D.

Day 8: Salvador to Ouro Preto Transfer to the airport for your flight to Belo Horizonte (approx. 1¾ hours). Transfer to Inhotim, a contemporary art centre and museum set in botanical gardens. Discover around 500 works by over 100 artists. The collection includes sculptures, paintings, photographs and installations that can be found inside the centre or in outdoor spaces. Transfer to a charming historic pousada in the colonial city of Ouro Preto. Stay: Hotel Solar do Rosario. B.

Day 9: Ouro Preto Explore the cobblestone streets and hilltop churches of this former gold mining town and UNESCO World Heritage Site during a walking tour. Admire 18th-Century architecture as you discover highlights including São Francisco de Assis Church, the Museum of the School of Mines, and the historic Opera House. Stay: Hotel Solar do Rosario. Day 10: Ouro Preto to Iguaçu Transfer to Confins airport, via Congonhas, stopping en route at the UNESCO-listed Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Congonhas – a Rococo church featuring sculptures by renowned artist, Aleijadinho. Fly to Foz do Iguaçu (approx. 3 hours), gateway to the breathtaking Iguaçu Falls on the border between Brazil and Argentina. Stay: Wish Resort Golf Foz do Iguaçu. B.

Day 11: Iguaçu Today is one of the highlights of your tour – enjoy a half-day excursion to the spectacular Iguaçu Falls. As most of the falls are on the Argentinian side you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the falls from the Brazilian side. Drive through subtropical vegetation in Iguaçu National Park and walk along the forested path down to the canyon, enjoying incredible views of the falls along the way. Ride the glass lift up the cliff face for spellbinding views from the upper deck.

Visit the artisans’ fair before an open-top jeep safari through the park. Enjoy lunch at Porto Canoas which offers an incredible view of the mighty Devil’s Throat, the largest waterfall. You’ll then have the chance to hike to Macuco Falls (approx. 20 minutes) and enjoy a dip in the cool waters below before a thrilling boat ride up the Iguazú River to the base of the falls and prepare to get very wet as pounding water drenches you in a relentless but exhilarating power shower. Day 12: Iguaçu Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK, arriving the following day. B.
